Monday March 9: Fairbanks to near Farewell Lake. Had to get a special vfr to get out of FAI, but then clear past Denali, Mt. Foraker and Mt. Russell. Calm winds until within 15 minutes of Farewell, which is a bad wind funnel. Had a real rodeo landing, with no chance of a go-around. Paul greeted me with "why are you flying today? I don't fly when it is like this!". Good advice, in hindsight, based on his 30,000+ hours of Alaska bush time. Also, a cub was wrecked nearby last year in similar strong gusty winds. It was good to see old friends, and meet the Buser crew too.

Paul has been flying the Iditarod for 27 years. This year he was flying Martin Buser friends and family along the trail. Without Paul's expert help and guidance, I would not have been able to do this trip. Thanks Paul, Jay and Ellie!
